The quiet town of Maje in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State was steeped in grief on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, as officers of the Nigeria Customs Service gathered with community members to mourn the loss of Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Sadiq Tahir Muhammad. He was killed in an attack just days earlier, on Saturday, November 8, leaving behind a void in the Kebbi Command and a scar on the community he served.
At the scene of the tragedy, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, fdc, Customs Area Controller for Kebbi Command, arrived to pay his respects. His presence was not only a gesture of condolence but also a rallying call for resilience. Standing before officers, soldiers, and villagers, he prayed for the repose of the fallen officer’s soul and urged his men to remain vigilant.
“Be well-kitted, stay alert, and respond decisively when attacked,” he advised, stressing the importance of synergy with sister security agencies and the need for seamless information-sharing platforms. His words carried the weight of both grief and determination, reminding officers that their duty demanded courage in the face of danger.
The gathering was marked by solidarity. Major Shola Elijah Moses, Commanding Officer of 1 Battalion Nigerian Army, echoed the Comptroller’s call, urging greater cooperation at both operational and tactical levels. “We are our brothers’ keepers,” he said, emphasizing the value of timely intelligence in preventing future tragedies.
From the community, the Village Head of Maje, represented by Chief Imam Liman Yusuf, offered prayers for the deceased and pledged continued cooperation with security agencies. His message was simple but powerful: the community stood ready to share information and support efforts to keep Maje safe.
