The United Kingdom chapter of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during the chapter’s monthly general meeting held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Grand Empire Lounge, Catford, under the leadership of the chapter chairman, Hon. Tayo Shodeinde.
According to the chapter, the endorsement was conveyed through the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, reaffirming the diaspora chapter’s commitment to the party and its governorship candidate.
Members at the meeting reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and pledged to mobilise support for Dr. Hamzat’s candidacy. They expressed confidence in his leadership credentials and his ability to sustain and expand the developmental achievements recorded in Lagos State.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for members to deliberate on strategies to strengthen the party’s structure within the diaspora and enhance support for the APC’s programmes and electoral objectives ahead of the governorship election.
As part of efforts to reposition the chapter for greater effectiveness, members approved an executive reshuffle to fill key vacant positions.
Hon. Afolabi Adebayo, formerly the Chapter Secretary, was appointed Acting Deputy Chairman, while Femi Abdulazeez Oguntoyinbo was named Acting Technical Support Officer. Babatunde Fujah was appointed Communications and Strategy Officer.
Hon. Yetunde Awolesi was nominated as Acting Secretary but was not present at the meeting and was therefore unable to take the oath of office alongside the other newly appointed executives.
The executives in attendance were sworn into office by Prince Bidemi Akintunde and Engineer Babatunde Seriki.
Members described the restructuring as a strategic move to strengthen the chapter’s leadership and improve its capacity to mobilise support for the APC as political activities gather momentum ahead of the governorship poll.
The chapter said its endorsement of Dr. Hamzat reflects the confidence of APC members in the diaspora in his leadership and expressed optimism that the decision would further consolidate support for his candidacy among party faithful in the United Kingdom and beyond.
