African Church College of Theology Celebrates 40th Anniversary

…Holds Convocation For Awards of Certificates, Diplomas

The African Church Collllege of Theology, Ifako/Ijaiye, Lagos on Thursday, August 24, 2023, celebrated it’s 40th anniversary and held convocation for the certificate and diploma of the students of the school.

The ceremony held at the School’s premises in Ifako, Lagos.

The College presented certificates to 26 males graduants and one female theologian, who made history as the first female to achieve the feat since the school was established in 1940.

Speaking during the anniversary service of the college, The Primate of the African Church, His Eminence, Julius O. Abbe urged the graduants to imbibe the theological aims of the college and the landslide feat behind the establishment of the College.

Primate Abbe compared his time to the present time when technology has taken over everywhere.

He stated that despite the challenges of that time, they were never discouraged from fulfill God’s given mandate and that they did this against their passion and interest.

He noted that discipline was at it peak then, while pointing out the errors of this generation.

According to the man of God, things are easier today compared to what was obtainable about 20 to 30 years ago.

According to him, it’s a good thing that the College has produced it’s first female theologian since inception, saying that this is not a mean feat.

Primate Abbe expressed regret that the fear of God is no longer fashionable among the men of God.

He said that of a lot of ministers are in the ministry today because of what they want to eat and gain, adding that some of them believe in competition and rivalry.

“Today, many ministers of God do not want to be posted to rural areas, and the appetite for prayer is no longer there.

“Some of them cannot even fast again, they hardly create time to properly study the word of God,” he said.

He however advised the graduants to imbibe the basic purposes of the African Church College of Theology, which he said is to train men for spiritual leadership in the church and in the community.

He then urged them to be committed to the things of God.

Highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of awards to graduating theologians and award of Fellow of the College to prominent Nigerians amongst whom were Engr Tonye David West, Admiral Micheal A. Adelanwa, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, Engr Olukayode Anibaba, and Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

The ceremony was crowned with an award of Grand Fellow of the College to Canon Olubukola Okunowo.
