2 min read

MTN Nigeria, the official communications partner of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has sent words of encouragement to the Nigerian Super Eagles after their exit from the Nations Cup.

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Olutokun Toriola, expressed confidence in the ability of the team to bounce back, “We applaud the Super Eagles for putting up inspiring performances at the Nations cup, the team did their absolute best and we are proud of them. We have a world cup to prepare for, we will support them all the way.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were unable to continue in their quest for a fourth continental title after their defeat at the hands of Tunisians. Nigeria came into the match in great form winning all group matches, but fell short after a long-range strike from Youssef Msakni found its way into the back of the net.

The first half was a tight knit affair with the Super Eagles dominating possession but neither team testing both goalkeepers.

The Tunisians took the lead just two minutes into the second half after Youssef Msakni took a shot from outside the box which ended up in the net. The Super Eagles had a difficult task on their hands to get back into the game, the task was made harder when Alex Iwobi was shown a red card in the 66th minute. The Super Eagles tried to create chances, but the Tunisians ultimately edged the tie.

Nigeria will have to wait for another two years to win a fourth continental title.
