A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), OPOLO ATI EWA celebrates International Women’s Day during their monthly meeting.
Speaking at the March edition of the group’s meeting, which was used to celebrate this year International Women’s Day, the Founder/President of the NGO, Hon. Chief Mrs Adenike Olumide-Emmanuel explained the importance of March 8th of every year to women across the world.
According to her, every March 8th has been set aside across the world to celebrates women of substances, those that have made history in the world through the fight on gender balances.
In fact, International Women’s Day first began in 1908 in the United States of America and eventually, became official in 1911. This, however, allows the world to celebrate women who’ve made history and continue to champion change and encourage future generations.
“It is a global a day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. In other words, it is a day to Celebrate Women. To celebrate who we are, to look back on what we have achieved so far, to strategise on the way forward and how women can take their places in a men’s world and that we all can be equal.
“When I say, “We all can be equal”, I do not mean going against God’s plan of the husband being the head of his wife and Christ being the Head of the man. I mean women earning equal pay as men. I mean women being on the board of companies as the men; Women being recognised for who they are and the contribution they make wherever they are.
The theme for 2021: #Choose to Challenge On the IWD website, organisers said: “We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world”.
According to the World Economic Forum, “gender parity will not be attained for almost a century,” which means it’s likely none of us will see gender equality in our lifetimes.
“There’s urgent work to do – and we can all play a part,” the IWD website concludes.
Earlier, the Guest Speaker at the event, Who is Pastor and Businessman, Olumide Emmanuel said, “I have been part of the program from the inception, however, looking at this year International Women’s Day, which comes up every 8th of March every year, and put together a lot of young women and vibrant entrepreneurs, business people coming together for this wonderful event.
Speaking on securing capital for business owners, the guest speaker highlighted different types of available capital; Four kinds of financial capital and 15 ways to raise capital for businesses.
According to him, when we talk about capital, it’s not just money, that was why I let them understand that capital is what you require to start to execute whatever you need to execute. So, it’s beyond money, because there are other capitals, such as; Human capital; Idea capital and Intellectual capital, among many others.
“In fact, you can have money but without an idea the money is useless. So, we also look at the four deferent kinds of ideas. And we also look at four deferent kinds of financial capital. Because some people need startup capital; Some need capital to expand (expansion capital); Some need capital to consolidate (Consolidation capital), while others may need capital to diversify”, he explained.
