Hon. Abdul Kudus Isah, a prominent House of Representatives aspirant for the Owan Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has thrown his weight behind the recent protest organized by the party leadership in Abuja. Speaking with a correspondent from National Monitor on Wednesday, the aspirant praised the courage of party members who took to the streets to demand a more transparent electoral process ahead of future polls.
During the demonstration, Hon. Isah expressed deep concerns regarding the current trajectory of the nation’s electoral umpire. He specifically pointed toward perceived inconsistencies in how recent administrative processes have been handled, suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must do more to earn the trust of the electorate. According to him, the integrity of the institution is paramount to the survival of Nigeria’s democracy.
Emphasis was placed on the necessity of a level playing field for all political participants. Hon. Isah noted that a biased electoral body acts as a barrier to genuine representation, particularly for constituencies like Owan that are eager for transformative leadership. He argued that when an umpire appears to favor specific interests, it dampens the spirit of patriotism and discourages young leaders from engaging in the democratic process.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the aspirant issued a passionate call for comprehensive reforms that would guarantee a free, fair, and credible exercise. He stressed that the errors and controversies of previous election cycles must serve as a lesson rather than a blueprint. For Hon. Isah, the 2027 polls represent a critical junction for Nigeria to prove its commitment to true democratic ideals.
The ADC chieftain further urged the electoral commission to remain insulated from political pressure and external influence. He maintained that the voice of the people can only be heard if the ballots are counted accurately and the process remains transparent from the ward level up to the national collation centers. He reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC’s vision of providing an alternative path for Nigerians through accountability and justice.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Isah called on his constituents in Owan and Nigerians at large to remain vigilant and peaceful while demanding their rights. He noted that the Abuja protest was not merely a party affair but a necessary wake-up call for all stakeholders to ensure that the will of the people is never subverted. He pledged to continue advocating for electoral sanctity as he prepares for his legislative bid.
