In a stirring address to fellow council chairmen, Hon. Sesan Olowa—Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and leader of Conference 57—reaffirmed the indispensable role of local government leadership in shaping the future of Lagos State. His message was clear: true governance begins at the grassroots.
Speaking at a recent gathering, Olowa emphasized that the responsibilities of a local government chairman go far beyond routine administration. “The role of the chairman is to coordinate the affairs of the conference and to support the governance of the state,” he said. “This platform also gives us the opportunity to learn from one another and improve service delivery across our local governments.
”Under his leadership, Ibeju-Lekki is already reaping the benefits of state-led initiatives, with more developments on the horizon. Olowa stressed that government is a continuous process, and his administration is focused on expanding infrastructure in health, environment, and especially education.
“If we built two schools before, we must now aim to double that,” he declared, citing the rapid growth of the local government area. His administration’s education strategy is both practical and forward-thinking: improve school infrastructure, support underprivileged students, and equip them with vocational and digital skills for the future.
Beyond development, Olowa highlighted the importance of civic engagement. He praised the unified efforts of all 57 local government and LCDA chairmen in Lagos to ensure residents obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), calling it a cornerstone of democratic participation.
“Every local government chairman is working to ensure that residents in their councils get their PVCs. It’s a priority because it strengthens democracy,” he affirmed.
Hon. Olowa’s remarks reflect a vision of inclusive growth, shared leadership, and relentless progress—positioning Ibeju-Lekki not just as a beneficiary of development, but as a blueprint for effective local governance across Lagos State.
