CONYSSA, NDLEA take drug campaign to youths, community leaders

A group, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security & Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), in conjunction with National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has held a conference to sensitise the youths on the dangers of drug abuse.
The conference with the theme: ‘Drug Abuse and Illicit substance Reduction: Role of Youth Organisations’, was held on Wednesday, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gbaja-Surulere.
It was targeted at teenagers and youths within Lagos State and its environs.
In his opening remark, Coordinator of CONYSSA in the state, Amb. Akanni Micheal, noted that love and creation of warmth through education were powerful tools in the fight against drug abuse.
Said he, “Love is an extraordinary force that has the potential to heal, inspire and transform lives.
Also speaking with newsmen at the event, Director-General of CONYSSA, Amb. Ade Mario Emmanuel, noted that the organisation was born out of people’s complaints about security and crimes amongst the youth.
“I am the founder of CONYSSA, and it was created as a result of people calling me here and there complaining about one security or crime issues.
“The Federal Government is aware of our organisation and it’s fully registered with CAC and the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development. And since the birth of CONYSSA, our challenges has to do with funding projects like this, therefore we need government intervention to this regard.”
On his part, Amb. (Dr.) Olaniyi Adegoke, National patron of CONYSSA, said that “the issue of drug abuse have been in existence for a long time but became rampant in this age due to government agencies negligence.
Therefore, I will urge the National Orientation Agency to wake up in their responsibilities by sensitizing youths on the dangers of drug abuse through radio, TV programme as it was before.”
In his goodwill message to the youths, the deputy granite, Lagos Island Sub Council, Sir Bernard Ebuzeme, who was also an awardee at the conference, commended the organisers and encourage the youths to keep themselves busy at all times, so as not to associate with bad friends who can influence them into drugs and other criminals activities.
Brig.-Gen. Oladeji Adeoye (rtd) in his message to the youths said, “the country has lots of hope, and there are more than enough jobs for the youths to do. We have talents and we are in the season of renewed hope, which means we can all make it.”
