The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (now upgraded to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro), Dr. M.A. Akinde, has called on youths in Yewaland to embrace education as a way of sustaining the development strides of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Dr. Akinde emphasized that the only way the senator’s efforts would yield lasting impact is if young people commit themselves to academic excellence and pursue education to the highest level.
Speaking during an interactive session with the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP) at the Grand Finale of the 2025 Oronna Ilaro Festival on Saturday, November 15, he noted that neglecting education would undermine the progress already achieved.
Projects Highlighted
The Rector pointed to two major projects facilitated by Senator Adeola in Ilaro:
- The upgrade of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
- The transformation of the Recreation Club, Ilaro, into an ultra-modern clubhouse with state-of-the-art facilities, commissioned by Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau during the festival.
According to Dr. Akinde, these projects can only stand the test of time if local youths take education seriously.
“If the youths neglect education, people from other places will flood the newly upgraded university. Our youths must be part of this progress to ensure the institution thrives,” he said.
Personal Testimony
Reflecting on his own journey, Dr. Akinde shared how his dedication to education shaped his career:
“I did my secondary schooling here in Ilaro, never imagining I would one day become Rector. My story is proof that education opens doors, and I urge our youths to follow the same path.”
On Oronna Ilaro Festival
Dr. Akinde also praised the Oronna Ilaro Festival, describing it as a cultural celebration that unites indigenes and visitors alike. He urged sons and daughters of Ilaro to continue supporting the festival, noting its potential to boost tourism and government revenue.
“The Oronna Festival has become a global cultural event held every November. It showcases our heritage and strengthens community bonds,” he remarked.
Commendation for Senator Adeola
The Rector lauded Senator Adeola for his contributions, particularly the facelift of the Recreation Club, which he described as a historic gesture that has brought joy to the people of Ilaro.
