In a bold move that has sent ripples through the political landscape of Lagos State, Prophet Godwin Ikuru has officially declared his intention to contest the Lagos State Governorship race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Beyond personal ambition, Ikuru stated that his primary mission is to leverage his extensive national network to ensure a landslide victory—or what he describes as a “flat win”—for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Asiwaju) in Lagos and across the federation in the upcoming presidential election.
A Grassroots Network Across the Federation
Addressing supporters and journalists, Prophet Ikuru emphasized that his bid is rooted in a deep-seated influence within major commercial hubs and among the diverse non-indigene populations in Lagos.
”I will deliver Asiwaju for the Presidential election in Lagos because I know my network is strong in all the major markets,” Ikuru stated. “I have been able to penetrate the non-indigene communities. Being a Governor is not just my major reason; my goal is for Asiwaju to win Lagos flat.”
Ikuru boasted of a “strong movement” that spans all 36 states of the country, highlighting specific strategic efforts already underway in key regions:
- Delta State: “My people are working all over the creeks.”
- Northern Strongholds: Active operations reported in Kebbi, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states.
- South-South Influence: Grassroots mobilization in Bayelsa and Rivers State, where he claims to maintain significant influence from previous election cycles.
The Strategy for Lagos
Lagos, often the centerpiece of Nigerian politics, remains the Prophet’s primary focus. By positioning himself at the forefront of the governorship race, Ikuru believes he can act as the ultimate catalyst for the President’s success in the state.
”I believe my standing for the Governorship race in APC in Lagos is going to move Asiwaju to the top,” he said. “Lagos State will be delivered for the President.”
