Concerned Stakeholders Raise Alarm Over Alleged Chairmanship Imposition in Yaba LCDA

A coalition of concerned landlords, electorates, and political stakeholders in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has expressed strong opposition to the rumored nomination of Mr. Joseph Babatunde Ojo as Chairman in the upcoming 2025 Lagos State Local Government Elections. The group led by Amoo Ismail has officially petitioned the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (OON), urging her and the President to intervene and prevent what they describe as a repeat of past political imposition that hindered development in the area.In a formal communication to the First Lady, the group raised concerns about Mr. Ojo’s advanced age, poor health, and long absence from political engagement, questioning his suitability for such a demanding executive position. They further allege that Mr. Ojo is being sponsored by Mr. Friday Soton, a presidential aide, despite residing in Surulere and having no visible ties to Yaba LCDA, is accused of manipulating the political process for personal gain.The stakeholders recall that a similar imposition occurred eight years ago, when the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Omiyale, was allegedly installed through Mr. Soton’s influence leading to stagnation and underdevelopment throughout his tenure. This, they claim, contributed significantly to the ruling party’s poor performance in the 2023 Presidential election within the Yaba area.“This is not just a political issue; it is a matter of justice, equity, and the future of our local government,” the group stated. “We have over thirteen credible, capable, and active aspirants ready to lead Yaba LCDA into a new era of progress. The community deserves a transparent and inclusive selection process, not another imposition.”The concerned citizens are calling for a halt to what they describe as the hijacking of the local democratic process and are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady to take immediate and decisive action.“We implore the First Lady and Mr. President to hear the voices of grassroots leaders and the electorate who are directly affected by these decisions. Yaba LCDA deserves better leadership, free from the manipulation of external power brokers.”In the same vein Sen Adefuye also alledged  that he want to impose his son on Yaba LCDA boasting openly that there is nothing anyone can do about it.In conclusion, the group has vowed to continue engaging all appropriate democratic channels to ensure accountability, fairness, and true representation in the forthcoming elections.
