Christmas Message: Methodist Prelate Declares Hope for Nigeria’s Economy Through Christ

His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, has called on Christians and Nigerians at large to give thanks to God for His unconditional love for humanity, which he said is the foundation of hope and salvation for the world.
Speaking in a Christmas message, Dr. Aba emphasized that the birth of Jesus Christ represents divine intervention not only for spiritual salvation but also for human and national challenges, including the country’s economic situation. He described Jesus Christ as the true Saviour whose sacrifice has settled what humanity could not fix by its own labour.
Quoting John 3:16, the Methodist Prelate reminded believers that God’s love for the world was demonstrated through the gift of His only begotten Son, assuring everlasting life to all who believe. He expressed strong faith that Nigerians will cross into 2026 safely, declaring that “heads will not roll” by God’s grace.
Dr. Aba encouraged citizens not to lose hope in the face of economic hardship, stressing that God has the power to restore human and national economies in His own time. According to him, patience, faith, and willingness to make oneself available for God’s work are key to overcoming present challenges.
Reflecting on the birth of Christ, he noted that Jesus came as a perfect example of readiness to make a difference in His generation. He explained that just as an intermediary is needed to reconcile a father and a child, Jesus came to reconcile sinful humanity back to God after the fall of the first Adam.
On national issues, the Prelate urged Nigerians to support the leadership, noting that nation-building is a collective responsibility and not the task of the President alone. While acknowledging the hardship many citizens are facing, he called for patience, trusting that God remains in control of the nation’s destiny.
He further pointed out that economic recessions are a global reality, citing experiences from other nations, including the United States, to show that no country is immune to economic stress. According to him, such difficult seasons often precede testimonies of growth and restoration.
Dr. Aba concluded by expressing confidence that Nigeria will soon testify positively about its current situation, assuring citizens that God will ultimately fix the nation and turn present struggles into lasting testimonies.
